It is not a small number. It’s a very big number.

Yes, but think about how much crude oil we’ve pumped from the ground, further cleaning up that polluted inner-earth. Our core is getting cleaner by the day.*
*not including whatever it is they pump into the shale to get the methane gas out.

Yeah, I hate these things. Try to combine orders as much as possible if only to get them in a cardboard box that we can recycle (plus, our trash cans that get picked up only every other week are TINY as is, and are mostly filled up with cat litter) .
Are thick paper envelopes that much more expensive for them?
Also finally gave in, went full suburban, and got a Costco membership. Hopefully we’ll be relying on online orders less for regular household items.

Don’t go there, English.

I do my best to send all of these back out _in the mail_ so at least they get used a second time.

Chems used aren’t really that bad at all.

Never seen those before, it’s all cardboard envelopes and mailing wraps. Must be regional.

It’ll be fewer than expected since the site crashed. My wife had several items she was looking at, but we can’t access any of them via phone or computer, and it looks like that’s happening all over the place.
And I’m actually kind of glad. We don’t use amazon all that heavily anyway, and primarily use prime for the video streaming. But after several other personal annoyances with the service, we’re about ready to pull the plug. The benefits (for us, at least) seem to be diminishing, and even the items we do buy there we can easily buy elsewhere for at least the same price, possibly better. And it’s becoming increasingly more common that free shipping is included. I have no issues actually driving to a store and buying what I need, either.

We use it quite often, though not always. When I consider the time and gasoline to go to a store, I’m often money ahead. Did Amazon crash on Prime Day?

Middle Earthers have been proposing this for years.

Hadn’t thought of that - do you just send them back with your product returns? Or do you mail them back to a specific address? I hope they actually do re-use them instead of tossing them, certainly worth considering if that’s the case.
We’ve gotten a lot more in to buying used things, or repurposing/renovating in many areas of life - often results in spending less money, fewer new things being produced and sold, and we’ve found can result in better quality too (for example redoing old furniture...so much newer stuff is utter crap).

No, I just reuse them for stuff that I mail. The next recipient probably just tosses it, but at least the material gets used twice.
We like repurposing things also.

The site crashed? Is that why when I click on “Shop All Deals” it just reloads the current page?

Huh, they’ve never shipped anything to me in one of those envelopes. So they’re recyclable with grocery store bags, huh? Not bad, considering that’s one of the few forms of plastic I can even get recycled in my area. I can turn in grocery bags, milk jugs, and... not much else. I have no choice but throw a lot of it in the garbage .

I just got one of those envelopes last week, the one t he size of a small house. Big-ass envelope that held one micro SD card. Seems slightly wasteful.

Forget the Amazon envelopes - what about Wayfair’s packaging? Boxes inside boxes inside boxes packed with layers and layers of styrofoam and everything’s wrapped in yards of plastic. Oh, and sometimes wooden boards for good measure.
